Brother's Little Helper: "The Simpsons" Satirizes Stimulant Medication as a Response to Childhood Behavior Problems
This Media Theatre presentation serves as an opportunity for child and adolescent psychiatrists to view a humorous cartoon presentation of childhood behavioral problems and a medication response to such behaviors. A 1999 episode of the long-running animated comedy “The Simpsons,” portrays childhood behavior problems in the extreme, and satirizes the use of stimulant medication as a solution to such problems. The content of the episode, Brother’s Little Helper, raises multiple questions about current patterns of medication use for disruptive behaviors. This Media Theatre’s primary goal is to promote thought and discussion about behavioral disorders and ADHD.
