Workshop 35 (sold out)
A Manualized Time-Limited Psychodynamic Psychotherapy for Anxiety for 8-16 Year Olds
This Workshop guides participants through the development of a pilot study of a time-limited psychodynamic psychotherapy for children and adolescents with primary DSM-IV separation anxiety, social phobia, and generalized anxiety disorder. The manual used was developed adhering to psychodynamic principles, with timelines curtailed to 12 weeks, at two sessions per week, where patients talk, draw, or play. The manual is explored in contrast to the tools used in other therapies, difficulties in developing a time-limited program are reviewed, and outcome testing investigated. Case presentations show how the manual was employed and how symptoms improved. This pilot study shows that dynamic psychotherapy can be manualized and tested.
