Workshop 11 (sold out)
Collaboration with Primary Care: Developing Clinical Skills, Overcoming System Challenges
The workforce shortage of child and adolescent psychiatrists, coupled with the increasing demand for access to care, has placed primary care pediatricians, family physicians, and nurse practitioners in a position where they are involved in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents who have simple as well as complex mental health issues. This Workshop provides an overview of various models of child and adolescent psychiatry working in collaboration with primary care clinicians. With adequate awareness of barriers and careful planning, collaborative models of child and adolescent psychiatry practice within primary care are quite feasible, sustainable, clinically valuable, and professionally satisfying. Clinical, interpersonal, and administrative skills for successful program implementation are covered. This Workshop prepares participants to function effectively in collaborative primary care settings, as well as contribute to the development and implementation of such programs.
