Master Clinician David Shaffer, F.R.C.P., F.R.C.Psych.
David Shaffer, F.R.C.P., F.R.C.Psych. is Irving Philips Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at Columbia University. He directed the Division of Child Psychiatry at Columbia University from 1977 until 2007 and was Director of Training on the NIMH funded Research Training Program in Child Psychiatry for over 20 years. He is chairman of the DSM-V Disruptive Disorder work group and is a member of the DSM-V task force. His research has focused on suicide, suicide attempts, and suicide ideation in adolescents and on the development of highly structured diagnostic interviews for children and teens. He has a particular interest in the assessment of episodic thoughts, moods, and behaviors. His awards include AACAP’s Irving Philips Award for Prevention and Lifetime Achievement Awards from NARSAD and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
