Workshop 42 (ticket)
The Efficacy of Multifamily Therapy in the Treatment of Adolescent Anorexia Nervosa
This Workshop explains the principles, content, and techniques used in the Maudsley Multifamily Group Therapy (MFGT) approach, to treating young people with Anorexia Nervosa. MFGT has been developed over the past 10 years. A closed group of 5-7 families attend an introductory evening, 4 consecutive days of treatment, and 6 follow-up days over a period of 9 to 12 months. The content draws on existing family therapy approaches, but emphasizes family strengths and encourages families to learn from and support one another. Presenters discuss the findings from the first randomised controlled, multi-centre trial comparing Maudsley MFGT with Maudsley family therapy in the treatment of adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa.
