SYMPOSIA are 3 hours in duration. A Symposium is data-driven and presents perspectives of different aspects of a topic or differing views of the same topic. It is the expectation of the Program Committee that presenters will come from different institutions. However if all speakers are from the same site, then a discussant from another site should be included.

There are 2 types of Symposia.

The first provides an opportunity for discussion on a particular topic by experts who approach the issue from slightly different, but generally complementary, perspectives. The second type offers discussion of a controversial topic by experts with differing views. Submissions about clinical techniques should include a brief description of or reference to the scientific evidence for and limitations of the treatment technique. Please indicate the method of ascertainment of the diagnosis in your submission. IRB approval is required if human subjects are involved. Symposia have a suggested maximum of 5 presenters, including chair and discussant.

The "twofer" rule applies to Clinical Perspectives and Symposia: no one may make more than a total of 2 formal presentations in Clinical Perspectives and/or Symposia. Acting as a discussant or chair without a formal presentation is not limited by this rule. All accepted submissions must display full disclosure slides to the audience. Approximately 50 Symposia spaces are available.

The following information is required:

  • The title of the submission
  • The chair’s affiliation and email address
  • Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Ethics Committee review status, if applicable
  • Educational learning objectives
  • Professional Practice Gap Identification
  • A Review Abstract and Proceedings Abstract for the overall Symposium describing the reasons why the individual components belong in the same submission and providing a description of each person’s participation
  • Each co-presenter's, discussant's, and co-author’s name, affiliation, contact information, disclosure of conflicts of affiliation, recording permission, and email address.
  • A Review Abstract and Proceedings Abstract for each individual presentation.
