Workshop 24 (sold out)
Somatoform Disorders, Factitious Disorders, and Malingering

Somatoform disorders are but one of a group of somatizing disorders which present frequent challenges to child psychiatrists and other clinicians regarding differential diagnosis and treatment. The essential feature of somatoform disorders is the presence of physical symptoms that suggest the presence of a general medical condition, but that are not adequately explained by a general medical condition, the direct effects of a substance, or another psychiatric disorder. This Workshop reviews current clinical perspectives on the differential diagnosis and treatment/management of somatoform disorders, factitious disorders, and malingering. Also, an updated review of evidence-based practices, to the extent available, is presented.
