Clinical Consultation Breakfast 7 (ticket)
Career Development in Child Maltreatment and Violence

Experiencing and witnessing violence can increase the risk of depression, anxiety, aggressive behavior, post-traumatic stress symptoms, and attachment difficulties in children and adolescents. Yet, youth subjected to maltreatment and violence are often the least likely to receive adequate services, including psychiatric treatment. Child and adolescent psychiatrists can follow a variety of career paths if they wish to specialize in treating or studying maltreatment and trauma in children and adolescents. Through interactive discussion, attendees explore clinical and research paths, and gain an understanding of the need for innovative clinical services for, and research within, this vulnerable population.
