The Return of Navajo Boy

Numerous members of the Dine (Navajo) nation were relocated for development of uranium mines during and after World War II. Families, as well as communities, were separated and lost track of one another; and to a greater or lesser extent lost track of their culture of origin. After these activities ended, some tried to return. The Return of Navajo Boy is a documentary focused on one family's experience; and shows the powerful impact fragmentation and separation from family have upon psychological development. Discussion centers on factors that tend to fragment families and communities of Native American Indians, and environmental and legal issues that impact these people.
