Special Interest Study Group 3 (sold out)
Family Interventions for Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists

It is essential that child and adolescent psychiatrists be able to interact with families in a consistently productive fashion and promote successful interactions within the family. This SIG reviews family interventions and family therapy and outlines useful ways to integrate them into the practice of child and adolescent psychiatry. Common problems such as dealing with separated and divorced families; parents with mental illnesses; cultural differences within families, and between families and clinicians; and chronic parental and parent child conflict are covered in detail. Participants have an opportunity to discuss problematic and challenging family situations they encounter.
