Many practicing child and adolescent psychiatrists feel poorly equipped to provide assessments of preschoolers, whose evaluation requires understanding of developmental issues related to young children, as well as sensitivity to relational and attachment issues. Many training programs lack preschool training despite the fact that the National Board of Medical Examiners now suggests the need for clinical skills verification in preschoolers. Using extensive video-taped footage, this Workshop enhances competency in preschool assessment, including parent interview, early childhood mental status, dyadic assessments, and a variety of interactive techniques to promote comprehensive evaluation. Participants become familiar with the application of the clinical skills verification tool as it applies to the preschool population.
