Parent Child Interaction Therapy: Treatment Components, Evidence-Base, and Training Guidelines

Clinical consensus exists that preschoolers with disruptive behavior disorders and/or ADHD should be treated with psychosocial treatments before initiating medication, however, access to proven interventions for this age group are limited and psychopharmacological prescriptions for preschoolers are increasing. Child and adolescent psychiatrists need to be familiar with evidence-based treatment options for this young population. This Workshop presents Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an effective, evidence-based treatment for disruptive preschoolers. Participants learn about PCIT’s theoretical framework and assessment procedures and become familiar with the treatment components of PCIT and PCIT therapist training standards and fidelity requirements.
