Spirituality and Healing in First Nations and Native American Communities

For First Nations and Native American communities, the task of strengthening mental health is often a particularly challenging process. Religion and spiritual beliefs and practices are aspects of a patient’s cultural life that strongly affects their health-related attitudes and behaviors. This SIG shares strategies for maintaining respectful connection with Native American and First Nations patients and their communities. Attendees broaden their appreciation for the significance of integrated mind/body/spirit treatment practices and share ideas about the satisfactions and challenges of collaboration between allopathic, traditional, and religious healers.
