Professionalism and the Internet: How to Get Along

Facebook, LinkedIn, Google, e-mail, blogs—The Internet is an established component of the daily lives, both personal and professional, for many individuals in North America and its use is skyrocketing.  Regardless of one’s perspective on the appropriateness or benefits of various forms of this technology, child and adolescent psychiatry practitioners need to understand its uses and the potential impact upon clinical care as well as professional behavior and standing. What are the benefits and what are the dangers? This presentation uses case examples as a foundation to review some of the clinical, ethical, professional and practical issues relevant to the child and adolescent psychiatrist.
