Lifelong Learning Institute Clinical Practice Update and Lifelong Learning Module 8: Modalities of Non-Pharmacological Treatments and Relevant Updates for Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists

This year’s Lifelong Learning Institute looks into Module 8, which addresses the non-pharmacological psychiatric treatment of children, adolescents, and their families. Specific components of a number of non-pharmacological treatments, including but not limited to cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, family therapy, and psychodynamic therapy are identified. Other behavioral and psychosocial interventions such as applied behavioral analysis, parent training, 12-step programs, and infant and preschool interventions are covered; as well as electroconvulsive therapy and various service delivery systems. In view of the new Maintenance of Certification requirement of earning 300 hours of specialty-specific Category 1 CME credit over the 10-year maintenance of certification cycle, this Institute is designed for all child and adolescent psychiatrists who are working on lifelong learning and self-assessment components of Maintenance of Certification. In addition, this Institute is ideal for anyone who just wants to keep current with important issues facing child and adolescent psychiatry.

AACAP’s Lifelong Learning Committee was created to assist members with fulfilling the lifelong learning, self-assessment, and performance in practice requirements as well as preparing for the cognitive exam. Among the Committee’s initiatives is the production of this series of modules containing relevant literature on targeted topics in child and adolescent psychiatry, which also include the most up-to-date literature published for the practicing child and adolescent psychiatrist. Plan to attend this Institute, which offers ABPN-approved self-assessment activity credit on today’s important topics.
