Mooz-Lum: Growing up Muslim in America

Psychiatrists need to be aware of the issues that Muslim-American children face on a daily basis. Just like any other religion, the ideology of Islam is interpreted in various ways. This can lead to many forms of practice that can often make patient care difficult for the child and adolescent psychiatrist who is unfamiliar with the religion and its cultural influence. The movie Mooz-Lum is used as a platform to discuss issues that arise for Muslim-American children, including teasing at school and unreasonable expectations at home. It delves into difficulties of assimilation, self-identity, and intergenerational ideals.
