Clinical Case Conference 9 (open)
The Assessment and Treatment of Comorbid Psychotic and Substance/Cannabis Use Disorders in Youth

A growing body of evidence exists that indicates cannabis use by adolescents and young adults may increase the risk of developing a primary psychotic disorder in adulthood. A similar relationship has been found between cannabis and schizophrenia. Two case vignettes are presented as the basis for interactive dialogue between the panel and attendees. Participants learn to recognize the comorbidity of substance use and psychotic disorders, in particular cannabis, and differentiate between primary psychotic disorder (PPD) in first episode psychosis (EP) and substance induced psychotic disorder (SIPD). Advances in treatment and integrated treatment options are presented.
