Master Clinician Harold S. Koplewicz, M.D.

Dr. Koplewicz is one of the leading pediatric psychopharmacologists in the United States and a graduate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He was chief fellow at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and the New York State Psychiatric Institute and then completed a 2-year NIMH research fellowship in pediatric psychopharmacology at NYS Psychiatric Institute. In 1986, Dr. Koplewicz was the youngest chief of child and adolescent psychiatry when he was appointed Chief at Schneider Children’s Hospital and Hillside Hospital at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. In 1996, he was appointed Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Vice Chairman of Psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine. In 1998, Dr. Koplewicz became the founder of the NYU Child Study Center. In 2006, he became the first Chair of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the NYU Langone Medical Center and the first child psychiatrist to be the Executive Director of the Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research. In November 2009, Dr. Koplewicz, together with Brooke Garber Neidich, established the Child Mind Institute, the nation’s only nonprofit independent organization exclusively dedicated to transforming mental healthcare for the world’s children. Dr. Koplewicz has also been the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology since 1997 and is the author of It’s Nobody’s Fault: New Hope and Help for Difficult Children and Their Parents and More Than Moody: Understanding and Treating Adolescent Depression. As a clinician, Dr. Koplewicz evaluates more than 100 new patients every year. He has repeatedly been recognized by America’s Best Doctors, New York Magazine’s Best Doctors, and honored by the American Psychiatric Association, AACAP, and the American Society of Adolescent Psychiatry. In this Clinical Consultation Breakfast, Dr. Koplewicz focuses on pediatric psychopharmacology of ADHD, anxiety disorders, and mood disorders.
