Submitting, Reviewing, and Getting Published: A Practical Approach
Scholarly writing is an important element of academic careers but is often seen as a daunting challenge. Trainees and early career child and adolescent psychiatrists may miss opportunities to submit their work for publication due to a lack of understanding about the publication process. Presentations cover concrete strategies to enhance the likelihood of having a work accepted for publication, with particular attention to writing effective abstracts; the components of an effective review, including manuscript assessment, respectful and helpful criticism, and rendering a final decision; and ways to get involved and published in scholarly publications like the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the utilization of the book review as a first step. Through guided exercises, attendees gain confidence in writing and submitting scholarly articles to scientific journals.
