Workshop 34 (ticket)
Scientific Status and Research Opportunities in Complementary and Alternative Treatments for Youth Psychiatric Problems
This Workshop updates attendees on past and recent activities in the area of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). There is increasing need for child and adolescent psychiatrists to know about CAM since these alternatives are often used by or requested by parents. As a result, it is important that the safety and efficacy for CAM be established. The need for, status of, and problems associated with current CAM research are discussed. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) research funding priorities and funding strategies are outlined. Participants learn how to submit a research grant by completing a NCCAM grant application for a randomized trial for preschoolers with ADHD.
