Workshop 41 (ticket)
Medical-Psychiatric Interface: Translating Research Interventions Into Clinical Practice for Depression, Sleep, and Pain
This Workshop demonstrates how certain neuropsychiatric manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), e.g., depression, sleep disturbance, and abdominal pain, are assessed and treated in a research study and then how the resulting personalized interventions are translated into clinical health care delivery. Three stages of this process are defined. Stage 1: Assessment of symptoms and modifying an existing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) paradigm to develop a treatment to be tested. Stage 2: Assessment and characterization of symptoms and testing of CBT modified to treat sleep disturbances in youth with IBD. Stage 3: Identification of both inflammatory and non-inflammatory endo-phenotypes of depression in youth with IBD and translating efficacy findings from a randomized clinical trial of CBT targeting these depressive subtypes.
