Special Interest Study Group 15 (ticket)
Working Effectively with Language and Cultural Interpreters in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Problems often arise in proper assessment, diagnosis, and treatment when psychiatrists attempt to engage patients in the patient’s non-primary language or use poorly trained interpreters. This Special Interest Study Group looks at the current ways medical interpreters are used in general medical, general psychiatric, and general pediatric practices. Together participants determine what adjustments to these protocols are warranted in child and adolescent psychiatric practice and suggest ways to improve collaborative relationships between child and adolescent psychiatrists and professional interpreters.
