Workshop 20 (ticket)
Disaster Psychiatry: Updates to the Field
Attention of disaster psychiatry continues to expand with recent studies charting the post-disaster psychiatric problems and opportunities for interventions for child and adolescent survivors and their families. Child and adolescent psychiatrists possess unique skills to effectively engage in immediate and long-term post-disaster interventions for children and their families. Participants learn how to be prepared before a disaster as well as to identify types and phases of disasters and systems of disaster response. The Workshop complements the broad recommendations of the National Commission on Children and Disasters. Disaster services are covered and suggestions about how to assist parents, schools, pediatricians, first responders, clergy, and agencies are outlined.
