Collaboration with Primary Care: Developing Clinical Skills, Overcoming System Challenges
Building collaborative relationships between child and adolescent psychiatrists and primary care providers is an extremely valuable strategy to improve access to children's mental health care as a part of the mainstream public health agenda. This Workshop provides an overview of various models of child and adolescent psychiatry practice offered in collaboration with primary care providers. Clinical, interpersonal, and administrative skills for successful program implementation are covered. With adequate awareness of barriers and careful planning, collaborative models are feasible, sustainable, clinically valuable, and professionally satisfying. Participants are prepared to function effectively in collaborative primary care settings, as well as to contribute to the development and implementation of such programs.
