Spirituality and Healing in Indigenous and Native American Communities
Healing is a complex process in all cultures, with religion and spiritual beliefs and practices being aspects of a patient’s life that strongly affects their health-related attitudes and behaviors. During this forum, attendees share strategies for maintaining respectful connections with cross-cultural, indigenous, and Native American patients and their communities. The prevalence and significance of integrated mind/body/spirit treatment practices in Native American and indigenous communities is explored. Ideas about the patient and provider-specific benefits, satisfactions, and challenges of collaboration between allopathic, traditional, and religious healers are shared.
