Clinical Case Conference 7 (open)
What’s Your Lens? Bringing Clarity to Complex Clinical Presentations that Make Use of Telesychiatry, Integrating Psychodynamic, Family Systems, Medico-Legal, and Ethical Lens

This CCC is a forum for integrating the perspectives of the AACAP Psychotherapy, Family, and Ethics Committees around complex clinical presentations that make use of telepsychiatry. The cases presented illustrate challenges commonly posed in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry when Web-based technology is used. Complex and competing agendas that present in such cases can hamper the development of a cohesive and effective treatment plan. Emphasis is placed on the value of close and collaborative consultation among all treatment team members, with the aim of establishing mutually agreed upon treatment recommendations that provide a well aligned, multidisciplinary approach that creates a sense of safety, compassion, and understanding for a child or adolescent and his or her family.  Clinical opportunities and challenges, principles for assessing child or adolescent patients from varying perspectives, and identifying strategies for integrating the use of telepsychiatry in the treatment plan are presented.
