Successfully Transitioning Youth to College: A Hands-On Approach

For youth with pre-existing mental health issues, the transition from high school to college presents particular challenges. They are at high risk for exacerbation of their symptoms, relapse, suicide, academic difficulties, and social difficulties. With thoughtful planning, more of these students can have positive outcomes. This Workshop identifies best practices for helping patients and families navigate the transition to college, provides participants with a toolkit of tangible resources and checklists to more successfully transition youth struggling with mental health conditions, looks at choices of post-secondary education options, educational law, privacy law, and campus resources, and provides clinical knowledge and skills through case vignettes.
