Depictions of Childhood and Family: Child Psychiatry and Art History
Through viewing and analyzing depictions of childhood and family in different periods of art history, from the Greeks through Modernism, participants gain an understanding of how the visual arts can better inform and enrich understanding of psychosocial development of children and their families, and better understand how to utilize and integrate the visual arts as a tool for strengthening families. In contemporary and modern art, the presenter looks at the early childhood of artists with mental pathologies, such as Vincent Van Gogh, as well as how development may help explain the artistic expressions of artists that started significant Western contemporary artistic movements such as Edvard Munch, Salvador, and Jackson Pollock.
