Guide to Psychotic Disorders Due to General Medical Conditions in Children and Adolescents

This CCB provides basic tools to recognize “red flags” that may suggest a general medical condition is underlying the acute onset of psychotic symptoms. The role of child and adolescent psychiatrists in recognizing clues to an underlying medical condition and initiating a workup is a primary focus of discussion. Attendees are encouraged to bring case examples from their own practices. Participants gain awareness of typical and sometimes challenging initial presentation; learn to formulate a differential diagnosis of new-onset psychotic symptoms due to medical diagnosis; and learn to initiate appropriate evaluation of psychosis due to a general medical condition.
