Committee Meeting (open to all AACAP members)
Diversity and Culture Round Table: Women and Girls

Women comprise 49% of practicing child and adolescent psychiatrists and 60% of CAP residents. We know that overall, there is no difference in the prevalence of mental illness between boys and girls, however, girls are less likely to utilize mental health services. While the committee structure of the AACAP embraces a wide range of issues that are salient for patients and CAP, we have yet to explore the breadth of problems specifically related to these populations. This year's Diversity and Culture Roundtable will begin to broach these concerns by reviewing a brief history of women in AACAP and in organized psychiatry and reviewing the most salient current issues of the young women and girls we treat.
