Clinical Consultation Breakfast 14 (ticket)
Managing Managed Care: Peer Review, Advocacy Strategies, and Ethics
This CCB provides practical information for child and adolescent psychiatrists on how best to interact with managed care and better advocate for patients’ clinical needs. Information is provided on how the common elements of Medical Necessity Criteria are applied for both treatment initiation and continued stay in residential treatment and inpatient mental health treatment. In addition, attendees become aware of options available for psychiatrists and family members to appeal managed care decisions; and are better able to recognize and confront ethical issues that are present in the managed care environment, such as payment decisions, non-covered services, narrow network, autonomy of the doctor-patient relationship, unfair practices, and confidentiality.
