Special Interest Study Group 5 (ticket)
CPT Coding Development and Implementation for Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists

Major changes in psychiatric CPT codes in 2013 have led to increasing medical and interactive complexity of child and adolescent psychiatric practice. Additional proposed code revisions for all physicians will further affect psychiatric practice in 2015. Optimal CPT coding has 2 aspects: 1) going beyond learning code criteria to using the new code set to improve reimbursement as well as clinical care; and 2) building an interest group within AACAP to assist with code implementation and future changes, including member education, feedback as to what is working and what is not with various practice styles and settings.  This SIG also discusses code development and valuation tasks, such as code surveys and review of documents. The first aspect of optimal coding is discussed, but most of the session concentrates on code implementation and development with recommendation on how individuals can become involved.
