Media Theatre 6 (open)
Fruitvale Station

Historical Trauma is relevant for many patient populations, however many child and adolescent psychiatrists are unfamiliar with this concept. The film, Fruitvale Station, recounts the events related to Oscar Grant’s death and how those events connect historical and current traumatic events in African-American (and American) culture. Participants gain an understanding of general concepts related to Historical Trauma; appreciate how these factors relate to varied patient populations; and recognize the implications of Historical Trauma in their work with African-American children and families.
