Workshop 19 (ticket)
Bringing Reflective Functioning Into Parent—Child Psychotherapy With Preschool Children

Participants gain a basic understanding of reflective functioning, how deficits in reflective functioning can impact child development and the parent-child relationship, how to evaluate the reflective functioning of the parent and child at the initial presentation, and how to use specific therapeutic techniques to enhance reflective functioning. There is opportunity to discuss clinical vignettes and videos that illustrate therapeutic techniques that enhance reflective functioning and how the concept of reflective functioning can be applied to work with children of different developmental phases. By assessing and then working to enhance reflective functioning capacity, participants can improve clinical and functional outcomes.
