Clinical Case Conference 9 (open)
Balancing on the Highwire: Individual and Systems Issues in Young Children Exposed to Maltreatment

Children and adolescents in foster care are prescribed psychotropic medications at a higher rate than non-foster youth and there is evidence of poorly coordinated care within the system. Most concerning is the lack of information on the impact of psychotropic medications in very young children who have experienced maltreatment. Attendees improve their ability to diagnosis very young children amid the complexity associated with child maltreatment; improve their capacity to consider the risks and benefits of psychotropic medication use in such cases; increase their awareness of psychosocial treatments appropriate to very young children; and enhance their ability to advocate for access to comprehensive treatment and achieve excellence in leading treatment teams.
