Workshop 8 (ticket)
A Novel Manualized Intensive Outpatient Program: How to Achieve Clinical and Cost-Effectiveness

There is a growing need for creative, cost effective, evidence-based protocols for treating mental illnesses that can be reliably and broadly disseminated. A novel, tested intensive outpatient program (IOP) for youth “stepping down” from higher levels of care or who failed to respond adequately to routine outpatient services has been developed at the Children’s Hospital Colorado. This Workshop provides strategies for operating an IOP and demonstrates parent-training techniques used within an effective manualized service delivery model. Attendees observe and then rehearse specific techniques for training families in effective strategies for modeling, teaching, and reinforcing psychosocial skills in their children; and, for families with psychiatrically ill adolescents, in optimizing communication, relational, and behavior management approaches.
