Mental health professionals are starting to use a new therapy modality colloquially entitled “geek therapy” in both clinical practice and research. As child and adolescent psychiatrists, many clinicians have, or will encounter, a patient who affiliates themselves with geek culture. Knowledge of the underpinnings of being a geek can be crucial to both rapport and therapeutic intervention. This Special Interest Study Group provides an opportunity for early career psychiatrists, residents, and medical students to connect with mentors interested in bringing geek culture, and geek therapy programming and research, into psychiatry. Participants are introduced to the geek culture construct, its impact on social interactions, and the use of therapy models based on geek culture. Discussion of future considerations for research and clinical practice are included.
