Teaching Through a New Lens: From Apprentice to Jedi Master: Using the Force to Guide Healthy Mentoring Relationships
One of the first things you think about as significant in the Star Wars saga is the powerful depiction of the relationship between student and teacher, or master and apprentice. Film clips from the Star Wars saga provide an interactive experience guided by active learning principles. Attendees learn to apply themes generated from qualitative research to improve mentoring skills; utilize three developmental models of mentorship to gain insight into the natural course of healthy and sustainable mentoring relationships from the perspective of both mentor and mentee; compare and contrast mentorship styles and distill the success and/or failure of each mentoring encounter into its component parts; and create practical and individualized solutions to mentorship difficulties at their home institutions through the use of small and large group facilitated discussions.
