Special Interest Study Group (ticket)
Problem-Based Learning in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Problem-based learning (PBL) continues to be promoted by professional and funding bodies as an appropriate and preferred strategy for professional education, but it must fit within the framework of current accreditation requirements and guidelines. This Special Interest Study Group reviews the basics of PBL, provides hands-on demonstration and discussion of PBL techniques, and discusses how PBL may be applied toward the teaching and assessment of competency-based milestones. Participants gather concrete ideas on how to improve their teaching programs and how to insure accreditation requirements and guidelines are optimally met. Sample cases and modules from various programs are shared, with the hope that components of potential “model curricula” in PBL can be identified.
