This Member Services Forum, sponsored by AACAP’s Early Career Psychiatrists Committee, provides child and adolescent psychiatry fellows and early career psychiatrists a setting for career planning and exploration in the area of private practice. Many graduating child and adolescent psychiatrists feel ill prepared for private practice in the key domains of business, economic, administrative, and leadership skills. Working with AACAP members experienced in private practice, participants explore options in office-based psychiatry, learn strategies for starting an office-based practice, receive mentorship on the transition to office-based practice, and, in small groups, practice applying their new skills to their individual professional dilemmas.
