This Workshop introduces and describes the SBIRT model and outlines its use in detecting and managing co-occurring substance use and psychiatric disorders. Participants achieve an understanding of structured screening and brief interventions for substance use disorders, and become knowledgeable about the potential benefits of utilizing this approach in child and adolescent psychiatry settings. Specifically, participants are trained in using structured screening instruments and provided a brief intervention based on the result of the screening. Participants become skilled with the SBIRT approach through live demonstrations and hands-on practice.
