Pediatric delirium can be differentiated from pain and anxiety using developmentally sound, evidence-based screening tools such as the Pediatric Confusion Assessment Method (p-CAM), the Preschool Pediatric Confusion Assessment Method (ps-CAM), and the Cornell Assessment for Pediatric Delirium (CAPD). Participants learn to differentiate all subtypes of delirium from pain, anxiety, and typical and disrupted sleep in infants, toddlers, and youth, including those with developmental delays or neurological deficits; understand existing screening and structured teaching tools with specificity for diagnosis of delirium in infants and children; and learn about sleep architecture and infant distress. An opportunity to practice using assessment tools is provided through clinical case discussion and video vignettes.
