Given the continued growth in culturally diverse immigrant populations in the United States and the current social climate around immigration and refugees, it is important for clinicians to achieve significant familiarity with the mental health needs of this population. It is also important to formulate informed approaches that address its special needs and have some evidence to support them. This CCC focuses on the special needs, challenges, and considerations that go into the assessment and treatment of immigrant and refugee children and youth. Presenters share cases that illustrate these factors and address them within the frameworks of culturally competent evidence-based treatment, developmental and psychodynamic considerations, and family and community approaches.
