Child and adolescent psychiatrists and clinicians receive an overview of the critical importance of understanding, assessing, and intervening with key aspects of family systems in their daily practice. Presenters review principles of family assessment and identify areas for family interventions during a session, targeting communication and problem-solving skills, decreasing family conflict, and improving normalcy in family functioning. Participants become familiar with the application of family interventions, such as joining, reframing, family rituals, prescribing symptoms, and reflective circular questioning. The opportunity exists to interact with peers and instructors to receive feedback on difficult scenarios from personal caseloads.
