Child and adolescent psychiatrists and other pediatric practitioners often have little exposure to dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) even though it has been shown to be a beneficial, effective intervention targeting emotional dysregulation and problematic behaviors in high-risk youth. This Workshop reviews DBT for adolescents, including an overview of the treatment model, which requires participation in multiple treatment modalities, including individual therapy and group skills sessions. Topics include specific commitment strategies for engaging youth and their families in treatment; and adapting DBT to culturally diverse, low-income teens, particularly Latino youth. Participants receive DBT training resources and are introduced to innovative and engaging teaching practices.
