Psychotropic Medications in Very Young Children in Foster Care: Taking Leadership in Developing Best Practices Locally and Regionally
The use of psychotropic medication in the youngest children in foster care deserves explicit attention. Child and adolescent psychiatrists are positioned to play a leadership role in developing systems of care for children served by foster care, particularly in the areas of assessment and treatment. This Workshop provides information on psychotropic medications; reviews current practices relating to governmental oversight; and presents a model for strategic planning. Participants engage in a strategic planning session to develop concrete strategies and identify systems partners needed to improve the appropriate use of psychotropic medication in very young children in their own states, regions, and locales.
