Clinical Consultation Breakfast (ticket)
Culturally Informed Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Practice
Application of cultural competence principles in serving immigrant and refugee children and youth is becoming increasingly significant as this population continues to grow. Child and adolescent psychiatrists have the opportunity to obtain consultation pertaining to the cultural needs of their patients during this CCB. Emphasis is given to cultural factors influencing the diagnostic evaluation, developmental and functional presentation, treatment acceptance and planning, and effectiveness of treatment interventions. Participants learn how to apply the AACAP Practice Parameter on Culturally Competent Care and DSM-5 Cultural Formulation in their conceptualization and treatment, and develop greater comfort and proficiency in treating culturally diverse children and youth using both culturally informed and evidence-based approaches.
