Eating Disorders in children and adolescents are often under-recognized in medical and psychiatric practices, yet they have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness. Participants learn the role child and adolescent psychiatrists play in screening, monitoring, and managing medical complications of eating disorders in youth; learn to assess for medical signs and symptoms of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder; learn to determine the appropriate level of medical care for an adolescent with an eating disorder; and learn skills to navigate the healthcare system in order to access needed treatments. Participants develop skills to communicate about the illness and treatment recommendations with patients and families.
