Child and adolescent psychiatrists often refer a child to pediatric neuropsychologists for comprehensive assessment and diagnostic clarification. Practitioners gain information about neuropsychological assessment, including components of an evaluation; become aware of when to make a referral; and learn how to interpret neuropsychological reports, along with recommendations that may result from a neuropsychological evaluation. In addition, participants learn how to explain to parents the comprehensive nature of the evaluation, validate reasons for neuropsychological assessment referral, clarify the differences between a psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations, and describe anticipated appointments.
