How to Get Published: Practical Tips, Strategies, and Methods From the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and JAACAP Connect
This Workshop improves publication skills and possibilities for medical students, residents, early-career psychiatrists, and other clinicians with limited scholarly writing experience by identifying common pitfalls and obstacles to getting published and methods for overcoming these problems. Practical aspects of preparing a science-based document are covered and attendees receive help in assessing their current skillset before engaging in case-based, skill building discussions. Discussion groups include choosing a publishable topic of interest; searching the literature and harnessing electronic library resources; writing using organizing principles; preparing an effective abstract; optimizing cover and revision letters; and, dealing with revisions and the inevitability of rejection. Participants are offered mentorship opportunities for publishing with JAACAP Connect.
