This Workshop improves publication skills and possibilities for medical students, residents, early-career psychiatrists, and other clinicians with limited scholarly writing experience by identifying common pitfalls and obstacles to getting published and methods for overcoming these problems. Practical aspects of preparing a science-based document are covered and attendees receive help in assessing their current skillset before engaging in case-based, skill building discussions. Discussion groups include choosing a publishable topic of interest; searching the literature and harnessing electronic library resources; writing using organizing principles; preparing an effective abstract; optimizing cover and revision letters; and, dealing with revisions and the inevitability of rejection.
